The Internet is a LIAR!

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 Posted in General | 4 Comments »

When the idea of the internet was conceived back in 1972, this imaginative concept was way ahead of available technology. In fact, when considering the scale of this incredible conceptual leap, there is some speculation as to how its inventor ever came up with the idea in the first place.

Some observers suspect the answer was revealed in US Government papers published after the 30 year rule. Buried deep in a report on “Information Security” there is a brief but incongruous referral to leaked technology as far back as 1971.

It appears the NSA was developing new software for their Cray Supercomputers for the purposes of eavesdropping on the American public on an enormous scale. We even see the first use of a now everyday term, when they described the future development of the system as the “worldwide information web”.

Unfortunately for them (but fortunately for us), some far sighted and brave individual within the NSA decided this was a sinister development with far reaching consequences for our personal liberties. The transmission protocols were leaked.

These transmission protocols resurfaced in 1973 when Vinton Cerf, working with the US Advanced Research Project Agency published a working paper. Perhaps to create a smokescreen for the NSA, it was Timothy Berners-Lee (a former colleague) working with the European Organisation for Nuclear Research who eventually launched the system and coined the revised NSA term “Worldwide Web”

Perhaps then it is no coincidence that the internet is not owned or operated by a single organisation. If the internet was developed on the back of leaked military technology – you had better keep your head down – I doubt you would live long enough to spend the money!

Now keep this article stored in your memory. When the subject of the internet comes up at dinner parties you can impress your friends with this startling new insight.

You can also tell them how the French won the Second World War and the Stealth Bomber is developed from Alien technology.

The point I am making is that everything you have read so far is fiction – it is all made up! In fact they are bare faced lies. (the internet thing was my own creation).

Traditionally we used verified and respected information tools such as Encyclopaedia Britannica to research factual information. However, since 1990, sales of EB have collapsed by more than 80% and been replaced by online search engines.

My point is this. When you read an article on the internet, how do you test its veracity? You often have no idea who wrote the piece, who carried out the research, and what type of medication the writer is taking.

Every conspiracy theorists, political axe grinder and burger eating, trailer-bound sex pest could be contributing to your pool of intellect.

So, the next time you begin a sentence with “…I did read somewhere………..” THINK AGAIN. Where DID you read it? And who wrote it?

The internet is a liar. And that’s the truth!
